Funky Flying Elvis Smoothie
Gluten-Free, Vegetarian & Lactose-Free (with Casein Free Option)
The Funky Flying Elvis Smoothie was designed by iamgf with one thought in mind; to create an insanely tasty smoothie that would curb junk food cravings, and boost energy without leaving us with jitters or a blood sugar crash.

Warning: Consumption of a Funky Flying Elvis Smoothie may cause others to perceive you as overly chatty, walking to quickly, and jumping conversational topics. You, however, will be in super stealth mode, aware yet blissfully unconcerned with their perceptions. If ever you were to don a cape and leotard, today is that day. Fly my friends, fly!

Yield: 1, 20-oz Smoothie

  • 4 oz hot strong coffee poured over 1.5 cups of ice, or 8 oz strong, cold, black coffee

  • 1/2 of a medium banana

  • 1 serving of BioChem 100% Whey Protein, Chocolate Fudge (this is Lactose Free)

OR ... for Dairy/Casein Free, try 1 serving of MRM Egg White Protein, Chocolate - makes delicious smoothies

  • 1 tbs of your favorite nut or seed butter - Almond butter and peanut butter are both very good, and I am sure that sunflower seed butter would be great as well.  Just use what works best for you.
    • Please check the labels of your nut/seed butters for salt and sugar.  Food manufactures like to sneak those little white devils in everywhere.
  • 1/4 cup of dry rolled gf oats or a 1/2 cup cold cooked gf oats (cooked in water, nothing else added)

    • if you are Celiac you might have a difficult time digesting oats (and other high fiber foods as well) until your intestines have time to heal.  If this is the case, I would suggest using cold cooked gf oats, or omitting the oats all together.  Just listen to your body, you will know what to do.

    • you can sub 2 TBS of gf rice bran for the oats or do 2 tbs of rice bran and 2 tbs of oats ... oats will help you feel full longer than rice bran.
  • 1/2 cup ice

Toss everything in a blender and blend till smooth, about 30 - 45 seconds.  Drink-up and enjoy!

TIPS:

1 - For a little extra energy kick add 1 to 2 tsp(s) of raw cacao nibs (if you are new to raw cacao, proceed with caution)

2 - Like your smoothie extra chocolaty? Add 1 to 2 tbs of unsweetened coco powder

3 - Need a totally sugar free option? Go for the MRM Egg White Protein, Chocolate.  They use stevia and not sugar to sweeten their protein powder.

4 - Want totally sugar free but want to keep the whey protein? Biochem makes a natural flavor that is unsweetened.  Try 1/2 a scoop of Biochem Whey Protein, Natural + 1/2 scoop of MRM Egg White Protein, Chocolate + 1 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder.  This is a great protein powder mix that I take with me almost everywhere I go (just in case) - see tip#5 for more about protein on the go.

5 - Busy Busy Busy? Enjoy your protein smoothies on the go too.

  • Step 1) Buy a 3 section baby formula dispenser and fill each section with 1 full serving of protein powder. I suggest the protein mix in #4 above.
  • Step 2) Buy a Blender Bottle and add 1/2 a mashed banana, a 1/4 cup of cooked gf oats and 1 tbs of flaxseed meal (meal, not whole seed)
  • Step 3) Take the Blender Bottle and baby formula dispenser with you when you leave the house (or hotel room, or in-laws abode, etc, etc.),
  • Step 4) When ready for a Funky Flying Elvis on the go, stop at your favorite coffee place and order an iced americano with no cream and no sweetener, just black
  • Step 5) Dump iced americano (including the ice) into the Blender Bottle, and 1 full section of protein powder from the formula dispenser, placing the blender ball in last. Tighten the lid on top and shake, shake, shake until well blended. Drink and enjoy.
    • I find a straw to be most helpful for slurping up every last drop from around the ice cubes.
Watching You Waist Size? Be sure to note that our smoothie recipes are not dainty, low calorie, humming bird nectar. They are big and nutritious, clean eating and decadent meals.  This recipe, for example, is about 382 calories (and pretty darn close to 30P/30F/40C for those of you who are interested), but is all clean and natural food that your body knows how to utilize.
